Well I finally got to see AvP. There were so many spots where the movie sort of died right before my eyes. Died. Then some stupid bastard would kick it and voila... like some pathetic zombie that just wanted to fall asleep and remain dead, it had to get up and try to move on. I have seen some just awful movies before, but this one is worse then the Scorpian King, worse than Knots Landing worse than any cheesy soap opera. What a sad ass story.

Those idiots who attempted to write a story about such classic monsters and failed, ought to be dragged out in the streets and be drawn and quartered.
the DVD was a birthday present from one of my kids. Golly so sad.

I guess everyone else thought it was a great movie.
Upon further thought, I think that Alien 3 was superior to this one, hands down. And Alien 3 wasn't that great a movie.

Is there actually going to be an 18 version or is that just half hearted wishfull thinking....
And because I can't be bothered to put in the research does anyone know when AvP is due out on this small but badly run country? Confused

i actually enjoyed it myself :/ go figure.

I am more than interested in seeing an r rated version tho, but rumors are flying either way if thats goign to happen..

things I dislike about this movie:
the opening sequence:
it is but damn cold at the whaling station and the last human is wearing one shirt and pants with suspenders... yeah I know he is running scared, but still...shouldn't he have more evidence of being damn cold?

Lex climbing the ice fall... a dangerous situation
a ringing is heard, is that a phone?
and she takes the time to answer her phone?

At the pyramid in Mexico, the archealogist, is doing it ALL wrong, he is not carefully exavating the dig site...
no he is being a stupid Hollywood actor and rummaging about with his hands in the narrow opening, which he ought to have opened further and more carefully....like a real archealogist would have..............morons.

What else?

The helicopter pilot says to Alex, basically we have reached the point where we have used up our fuel to the point we cannot go back to where we came from...okay
so they arrive at the Icebreaker that isn't really an icebreaker, that's another point, the bow is shaped all wrong...
Alex decides to leave and is informed that the chopper is ready to go...the ship has been traveling since she got on...further away from the point where she originally was dropped off...so how is the fuel going to last all that way back to where she came from....???

wow.. none of those things seem to have affected me in any way, and I don't think they will during further viewings either....

I don't know what's worse about bad movies in general:

a. plot holes
b. inconsistancies in makeup/etc.
c. the smelly people in the theater... like the guy who is sitting near me in this computer lab that REEKS OF BOOZE!!! Shocked

bah.. i liked it.. and you know how much of an Alien geek I am.. I just think some people have too many expectations, especially since the AvP idea mill had been running close to 15 years before the movie was actually made.. I think this AvP would have been much more widely accepted if it had been released right after Predator 2 and Alien3.

I've yet to see AvP,so I cannot as yet comment on it but I will definately see it when it finally makes dvd here,I've seen the review in various mags' and its a double disc affair with a 15 rating,the extra disc is a "Behind the scenes" look at how the movie/costumes were made etc,which is always good have,so I for one will buy it.

I keep hearing conflicting stories about that,the last I read was that there weren't really any gory scenes filmed and Anderson just said that to appease the fans...??? Confused

well, it's a tough call.. there's quite a bit of blood and gore in it as it is, but 'alien' and 'predator' blood is allright for PG-13.. but man, there are some bloody gauntlets, impalements, etc.. the only thing there ISN'T are skinned corpses hanging upside down.. which is fine with me.. theyre hanging upside down, no need for them to be skinned, since they aren't there to hunt humans.

But there were a few scenes that seemed a bit choppy, namely "One"'s death. I don't think it needs any more gore or anything, I think it just needs 20 more minutes of creepy hallways, and some more character development, but no more action is needed.

Time will tell if there's a R-rated version:
1) Anti-Anderson fans are rabid about calling him a liar as quickly as possible
2) FOX is renowned for their troubling the directors of ALIEN films.. hello, Mr. Fincher, anyone?

If there is one released, great, I'll buy it. If not, I'll keep the current DVD still satisfied.

Besides, Lance Henriksen does the 'thing with the knives' for a second.. how cool is that?

Current DVD with the Director and Henrickson's commentary is ever so the keeper...
As crazy as I am about these movies to be able to hear the wistfulness and sadness in Mr. Henrickson's voice when speaking about this being his last time round with the Alien franchise...oh gosh...it is worth it to hear the Director's view.
His default movie to watch is Aliens!

This movie is worth viewing and discussing.
I remember the discussion that was had about Alien 3 and this one needs to be discussed also.
So go buy the damn movie and get Cracking!

i agree......AVP just didnt make par with the other alien films...including alien ressurection(which i thought was a disgrace to the alien film(because of the "new born") i wasnt around when the first two alien films were released but ive seen them hundreds of times and can testify that the first 3 are far better than any movie that could be made in the series today.period....
