I have some more question to ask. This subtitle also comes from Aliens, the second Alien movie. Thank you all for your help and patience.
For your convenience, I keep the timestamp of the subtitle. If you are not familiar with subtitles, you can just ignore the timestamp before the sentences.
When directing the marines searchin in the complex, GORMAN ordered:
611
00:49:33,800 --> 00:49:35,600
Quarter and search by twos.
What does quarter here mean? |

I'm not really sure what they actually mean by " quarter"...its just a military term ( either real or made up for the movie). Perhaps " quarter" refers to an area or space, like " living quarters". |

Here in this sentence it seems to be a verb. |

Yes, it is used like a verb. " Quarter and search" as in " secure the area" and search, or " block an area out and search"...and the rest means, in groups of two marines. |

I'll have to watch the DVD again, but I think that there are 8 marines in the complex (not including Goorman) and a quarter of eight is 2. |

Recently I got a new explanation of "quarter" from one of my dictionaries, which means:
To cover an area of ground by ranging over it from side to side.
I think this meaning sounds appropriate. |
