Here are the latest pics of my Alien head...It feels like it's been going on forever.
I've added the side detail and primed it up,all I need do now is dress the interior of the lower jaw then I can add the pipes that come off the back of it fill in a few more dents on the dome then that will almost be it!!

That dio looks awesome!
Oh, and the head too...

Very Happy

Mind sharing a few tips on how you built the dio?

The basic structure of the dio is 6mm foam core board,I think thats what its called!!
I copied the door shape straight outta the movie, what i did was cut out the shape then simply glue a whole piece on the back to make it recessed,i then added various panel shapes on using 1mill plasticard.
The grill on the floor was completely built from scratch by cutting out loads of thin strips from more plasticard and laying them across further stips at right angles to them selves,thus..

you can just make out what I mean...it's also set in a recess on the foambaord to give the illusion of depth.
The various "Hardware" dotted about are really just "found" objects...
The large oblong door panel is a Mach3 razor box with a sratch built controll panel added, that circular looking thing on the upper right of it is...well to be honest I don't know what it is but if the shoe fits...
The two identical shapes on the slanted bit are a couple of Droid space ship fighter things from The Phantom Menace!!
Various straws and other found objects make up the rest...
Basically if something looks like it could be on a space ship then it can,
hope this will give you some pointers should you wish to make your own Very Happy Very Happy

Very cool man!
Thanks for the tips, I think I could do the hardware, it's the painting that eludes me completely...

Ah the painting...
This is what I did, apart from the door I sprayed the whole lot with an aluminium coloured spray then just literally using a wide brush dirtied it down using black paint(acrylic) dry brushing where it needed etc..the thing is being a bit of an artist I just seem to instinctively know what to do,sounds big headed but I don't mean it that way..
I paint portraits in oil for some folk and they ask me things like "how did you get the hair to look so real" etc and I really can't tell them because I really don't know,I just seem to know what to do get something looking like it should, but the good thing about dios is that experimenting with different techniques is all part of the fun... Very Happy

Hah! Very Happy Trust you to pick up on my little chin prop...
Actually I forgot to switch the phone off when I took that pick and the weight of the jaw activated the the last number dialled button and it just so happened to be my land line number....thus ensuing silent phone call hilarity....What a putz! Embarassed

You mean the dio?? It's about 10 inches(250mm) high,to fit the AMT/ERTL alien
If you mean the head it's full size, about 35 inches(about a meter) long..
